Reducing Pollution and Producing Energy

To deal with growing concern about livestock wastes and pollution; a renewed interest has been sparked in processing livestock waste to recover energy. Currently anaerobic fermentation or digestion shows the greatest potential; the process creates a form of energy that can be utilized in several ways.

Anaerobic digestion produces a bio-gas, which is comprised of methane and other gases. Ongoing research is being completed to make the process more practical and efficient for energy production. New strains of bacteria and culturing methods are being researched for more effective methane production. Engineers are also aiding in further development, through design operating procedure advancements which will reduce construction costs and operational requirements.
